Lacto-vegetarian diet plus exercises could lower fibromyalgia pain
A diet that includes vegetables and dairy but excludes eggs could help people with fibromyalgia who embark on an exercise programme too, says a small study from Spain.
A total of 21 women were split into three groups for four weeks. One group did core stabilisation exercises and followed a lacto-vegetarian diet. Another consumed a lacto-vegetarian diet but did not do the exercises. And a control group continued life as normal.
Those who did the core stabilisation exercises and followed the lacto-vegetarian diet showed significant changes in pain reduction and body composition at the end of the intervention, increasing muscle mass and decreasing fat mass, when compared to the other groups.
“A four-week intervention program combining core stabilization exercises plus lacto-vegetarian diet in patients with fibromyalgia who have low back pain contributes to pain reduction and improved body composition,” the authors say.
