A new gel for osteoarthritis shows potential
A gel-based treatment could make a real difference for people with osteoarthritis, says a study published in the Journal of Rheumatology. Flexiseq is a gel that contains phospholipids similar to those in the lubricating synovial fluid in joints. Designed to permeate the skin, the phospholipids lubricate damaged cartilage and ease joint pain symptoms.
The US trial involved 281 patients over a period of 12 weeks and found that Flexiseq was highly effective in managing the pain associated with the osteoarthritis and has a stronger safety profile than other options.
“This is an important study which further confirms the safety and efficacy of Flexiseq for treatment of the chronic pain and stiffness that troubles so many patients with osteoarthritis,” says Dr Matthias Rother, lead author.
