Acupuncture For Osteoarthritis

Acupuncture may help people with osteoarthritis of the knee says new research published in Focus On Alternative and Complementary Therapies.

Scientists from Israel examined 41 patients over 45 years who had osteoarthritis of the knee accompanied by moderate to severe pain.

The study group received either true acupuncture (verum acupuncture) or sham acupuncture twice a week for eight weeks in addition to standard therapeutic care. Analysis of data taken four weeks after the end of the trial led to the researchers concluding that “adjunctive acupuncture treatment seems to provide added improvement to standard care in elderly patients with (osteoarthritis of the knee.”
