Postmenopausal women who eat Mediterranean diet less likely to suffer from hip fractures, says study

In the study, researchers examined whether diet quality affects bone health in postmenopausal women and found that women who ate this healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruits, nuts beans, peas, unrefined grains, olive oil and fish, were slightly less likely to suffer from hip fractures. Probiotic supplements could help address menopause-associated bone loss, says study

The study, by the Emory University of medicine and Georgia State University, US, conducted an experiment with mice and found evidence that probiotic bacteria may have potential as a treatment for bone loss associated with the menopause. Continue reading

Link between breastfeeding and osteoporosis in older women, suggests study

Researchers from Yonsei University College of Medicine in South Korea has found that breastfeeding “can increase postmenopausal women’s risk of osteoporosis”, which also suggests that a person’s diet could help to modulate or counterbalance this risk. Continue reading
