Chinese medicine Gushukang may increase bone mineral density

epimedium, horny goat weed, Gushukang, osteoporosis, chinese medicine, arthritis digest Gushukang is a traditional herbal compound used in Chinese medicine for the treatment of osteoporosis. It’s been a focus of interest in other countries too, and now a new review of 24 studies agrees that Gushukang capsules can potentially treat primary osteoporosis.

Interestingly, Gushukang capsules plus conventional drugs was found to work better than conventional drugs alone for increased bone mineral density, pain relief and improved bone metabolism-related indicators.

The team who reviewed the studies and published their findings in the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research) suggest that there is a risk of bias so more high-quality independent trials need to be done. However, they do conclude that “in our review, it is suggested that the Gushukang capsule effectively and safely treated primary osteoporosis”.
