Crystal deposits found in osteoarthritic joints
Gout-like deposits have been found in the joints of people with advanced osteoarthritis. A team from the Mayo Clinic examined the joints of people with the degenerative disease and spotted uric crystal deposits around joints similar to those that plague gout patients. But the osteoarthritis patients didn’t show symptoms of gout.
More research will determine if the crystals contribute to the severity of osteoarthritis or are simply a byproduct.
