Fracture risk increases with high blood pressure
High blood pressure increases the risk of osteoporosis and fracture in women who have been through menopause, says research published in Osteoporosis International.
Scientists measured the bone mineral density and carried out interviews and X-rays on 1,032 men and 1,701 women aged at least 50 years.
Results revealed that women with high blood pressure have a higher rate of fractures, regardless of bone mineral density.
The finding is important because about 30% of people in the UK are through to have high blood pressure, so they could be at risk of fracture.
