Hip replacement ops improve five-year quality of life
People who have total hip replacements experience meaningful and lasting improvements in quality of life for at least five years after the procedure, reports a team in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.
Experts looked at data from 188 people (average age 69 years) who had total hip replacements.
Levels of pain lowered and functioning improved after the surgery and so did quality of life scores, peaking after one year but remaining significant for a full five years. At that point the study ended, so it is likely that many people would continue to experience improved quality of life for a longer period of time.
