New drug for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis shows potential
A study of an antibiotic treatment for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis has had promising results in early trials.
RHB-104 is three antibiotics in a single capsule and when it was tested it was found to reduce the severity and development of Lupus. Now that the scientific principles behind the therapy are believed to be sound, the drug can be considered for further studies.
The underlying cause of Lupus is unknown, but it can cause damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, brain, heart and lungs. There is no cure so research and development is vital.
