Research shows benefits of acupuncture in osteoarthritis
Acupuncture could be one of the more effective interventions for pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee, says research from York University.
Osteoarthritis is a common condition that affects joint cartilage, especially in the knee and hip. About 10% of people over the age of 55 years old experience it, particularly (although not exclusively) in later years.
The good news is that research suggests that traditional acupuncture can be an effective intervention for this painful condition. Traditional acupuncture is a holistic therapy in which single-use, ultra-fine needles are interred into specific points on the body to correct imbalances that may give rise to symptoms such as pain.
