Today – 16th October – is World Spine Day, so straighten up and listen to how to protect your back!

This year’s theme is “Straighten Up and Move,” focusing on the importance of proper posture and movement in maintaining good spinal health.

Start by taking a look at the Straighten Up UK stretches and exercises from the British Chiropractic Association. Here are the basic rules:

  • Think positively.
  • STAND TALL. Straighten up with a confident posture (ears, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles should be in a straight line).
  • Breathe calmly, deeply and slowly from your stomach region.
  • Move slowly. Do not jerk or bounce.

(Do check with your GP or other healthcare professional before starting the exercises to make sure they are appropriate for your specific needs.)
