T cell that promotes damaging immune response discovered by scientists
A T cell that plays a vital role in promoting the damaging autoimmune response that inflames and attacks joints in people with rheumatoid arthritis has been discovered, experts report in Nature.
The finding offers important new clues about how rheumatoid arthritis develops and may lead to powerful and targeted treatments.
“Our results help illuminate a path toward treatments that are much more precise and focused only on the most relevant immune cells,” comments Dr Deepak Rao, who led the work.
