Traditional medicine – Xianling gubao – shows promise as osteoarthritis treatment
Xianling gubao, a traditional medicine that contains extracts from six herbs, may be useful for people with osteoporosis and now it is under the spotlight when it comes to osteoarthritis.
A research group from China evaluated the impact of Xianling gubao in the management of 534 people aged over 40 years old with knee and hand osteoarthritis. Around half of the participants were given Xianling gubao and the rest were in the watchful waiting control group.
Those in the Xianling gubao group had reduced pain and improved function of the knee and hand over a six month period. The group concludes:
“Xianling gubao could be suggested as an alternative treatment for patients with knee or hand osteoarthritis.”
