Quiet time

Hospitals can be a little noisy. If you’re a light sleeper, ear plugs are a must. These are available as foam, wax or silicone. Try out the different options before your hospital stay as it comes down to personal preference – and pack a few pairs in case one gets lodged down the back of your bed.

Dry shampoo

Dry shampoo is no substitute for proper use of shampoo and conditioner, but it can be a lifesaver in hospital. It’s also useful to have in your bathroom cabinet for times when showering may be difficult at home. Batiste Dry Shampoo Clean & Classic Original banishes oily roots, giving dull, lifeless hair the makeover it needs without any water. All you have to do is massage it through with fingertips, brush and style for body, texture, and a clean and fresh feeling.

Batiste Dry Shampoo Clean & Classic Original is around £3.25 from Boots.
