Yoga improves pain, function and stiffness of knee arthritis
Yoga appears to be effective for lowering pain and stiffness of knee osteoarthritis, and improving function, says a Current Rheumatology Reports paper.
A review of the evidence highlighted nine trials involving 640 people with osteoarthritis (aged 50–80 years, 80% women).
No effects were found for quality of life, depression, or for hand osteoarthritis. But while the quality of the trials wasn’t great, the authors of the review explain that their findings do suggest that “yoga may be effective for improving pain, function, and stiffness in individuals with osteoarthritis of the knee, compared to exercise and non-exercise control groups.”
